Shelter

Description: Zach (Trevor Wright), an aspiring artist, has to put off his dreams of going to art school to work and help his older sister Jeanne (Tina Holmes), his disabled father and his five-year-old nephew Cody (Jackson Wurth).

Zach develops a close friendship with Shaun, a published writer, as they go surfing together. One night after surfing, Zach and Shaun kiss each other, but Zach is not prepared to give into his feelings at that time. Nevertheless, their friendship soon develops into a romance. When Zach’s older sister Jeanne learns that he is hanging out with Shaun— though Jeanne has a notion, but reluctant, that Zach might be a bisexual himself—she warns Zach that Shaun is a gay.

Zach is perturbed and confused by his sense of obligation to support his family, his relationship with Shaun and desire to pursue his college dream. Shaun secretly submits Zach's art school application, and Zach is eventually accepted on full scholarship. However, when Jeanne leaves Cody behind with Zach, Zach is forced to set aside his college for himself and Cody.

In the end, Zach discovers that affirming his love for Shaun and going forward with his art career is the best solution to his dilemma. The film ends up with a scene of Zach, Shaun and Cody playing together on the beach as a family.
